Mumbai thrashed Bangalore by 35 runs to qualify for the summit clash on Sunday, 25th of April, when they will take on the winners of CSK vs Deccan match that is to be played tomorrow.
Chasing a huge total of 184 for five, the RCB could manage only 149 runs in their stipulated 20 overs, losing 9 wickets. Taylor top scored for them with an unbeaten 31. But that was it, and there were no other significant contributions from their side. Dravid and Utthapa's brief cameos were just not enough to drive them home. The pressure of this big total got the better of them in the end.
The RCB were guilty of conceding 77 runs in the last 5 overs of the Mumbai innings, when Tiwary(52) and Pollard(33) collected runs at will propelling their team total beyond the reach of their opposition. At the end of 15 overs, the MI were struggling at 107 for 4, when the Pollard-Tiwary duo took the attack to the RCB camp.
Pollard, who scored yet another match changing knock of 33 in just 13 balls, claimed 3 wickets while bowling, which ensured that MI stay on course for the trophy.
For the RCB, this was their second closest miss to lay their hand on the winners' tropy after their loss in the finals in the last edition. Now they will have to quickly put this behind and get ready for the third place play-off on 24th of this month, that would be the key for a place in the Champions League.
